ANU College Requirements

ANU entry requirements and finding an academic supervisor

Generally, applying for a PhD at the ANU involves the following steps:

  1. Decide on your broad research topic
  2. Identify potential supervisors and their College using the ANU Researcher Database
  3. Self-assess to determine if you meet the entry requirements into the College (see below)
  4. Follow the College specific instructions in order to make contact with the potential supervisors

Entry into a PhD program and the SRW Scholarship is dependent upon the availability of a supervisor at the ANU who is available to supervise your research project.

Tips for success

  • Each College has slightly different entry requirements and application processes.
  • Please ensure that you read the details below for the College you wish to apply for and follow the appropriate process.
  • When contacting a potential supervisor(s), it is important that you provide him or her with all information relevant to your application.
  • It is important to ensure that your research topic aligns well with the research interests of the supervisor and their school.

Please note

  • Many of our academic staff are internationally recognised and receive many expressions of interest each day.
  • To ensure that your request is given appropriate attention, please follow all instructions as outlined below.
  • If you have been instructed to contact an academic, please be patient as many of our academics are extremely busy and have regular international travel, and there may be a delay in responding to your request.

Important

As part of the Sir Roland Wilson Foundation Scholarship Application process, you do NOT need to formally apply to the ANU for a PhD program. Please follow all College specific instructions as outlined below in order to contact a supervisor. This information was correct at the time of publishing, however you are strongly encouraged to go to the College websites to check the process. This information is provided to help you assess your eligibility for admission into programs across the ANU, to assist you with contacting a supervisor and preparing a research proposal.
