The Sir Roland Wilson Foundation is pleased to announce five Sir Roland Wilson scholarship and three Pat Turner scholarship awardees for postgraduate study at The Australian National University (ANU) and Charles Darwin University, commencing in Semester 1, 2026.

The Sir Roland Wilson scholarship awardees are:

  • Gabrielle Lawrence from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to research ‘Challenging knowledge hierarchies in public policy: exploring the role of lived experience knowledge in social security and unemployment policymaking in Australia’ at ANU Crawford School of Public Policy
  • Will Mackey from The Treasury to research ‘Responses to labour market task supply and demand shocks’ at ANU Crawford School of Public Policy
  • Joanna Maning from the Department of Social Services to research ‘Addressing gaps in gambling harm support: Co-designing culturally responsive interventions for affected others in Australian communities at ANU Research School of Social Sciences
  • Danielle Stiff from the Department of Education to research ‘Improving outcomes of vulnerable children: what level of attendance at preschool helps?’ at ANU Research School of Social Sciences
  • Phillip Womack from the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing to research ‘Essays in education, employment and health outcomes for people with disability’ at ANU Crawford School of Public Policy.

The Pat Turner scholarship awardees are:

  • David Barras from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to study a Master of Philosophy at ANU Crawford School of Public Policy
  • Alex Archibald-Binge from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to study a Master of International Law and Diplomacy at ANU Law School
  • Sophie Bloomfield from the Department of Defence to study a Master of Business Information Systems at ANU Research School of Management
  • Tiana Brockhurst from the Department of Home Affairs to study a Master of Public Policy at CDU Faculty of Arts and Society

The Foundation will hold a second round of selections for Pat Turner scholars to commence in Semester 2, 2026.

To date, the Sir Roland Wilson Foundation has awarded 114 scholarships to Australian Public Service employees across 27 agencies.

The Sir Roland Wilson scholarship is a three-year, full-pay scholarship for PhD research at ANU for high-performing EL1 and EL2 APS employees.

The Pat Turner scholarship is a one-to-three year full-pay scholarship for any level of postgraduate (graduate certificate through to PhD) study at ANU or Charles Darwin University for high performing APS 4 through to SES Band 1 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australian Public Service (APS) employees.

Applications for 2026-27 scholarships open on 15 October 2025.
