The Sir Roland Wilson Foundation has awarded three Pat Turner scholarships for PhD research at The Australian National University (ANU) and Charles Darwin University (CDU), commencing in Semester 2, 2025.
The Pat Turner scholarship awardees for Semester 2, 2025 are:
- Toni Hay from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to research ‘Integrating Traditional Knowledge into Climate Adaptation: A Framework for Enhancing Resilience of Australian Biodiversity’ at Charles Darwin University
- Thaarramali Pearson from the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to research ‘Investigating the application of the Australian Government’s Budget rules and their influence on policy development’ at The Australian National University
- Rebecca Salcole from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to research ‘Redefining Success: Evaluating Broader Impacts of the Indigenous Procurement Policy (IPP)’ at Charles Darwin University.
Thaarramali Pearson and Rebecca Salcole are currently completing masters-level study at ANU and CDU with the support of Pat Turner scholarships.
Rebecca says her master’s research into the Australian Public Service (APS) Indigenous Procurement Policy has laid a strong foundation for her PhD.
“Upon completing my PhD, I aim to return to the APS with a depth of expertise in the Indigenous Procurement Policy and help drive best practice implementation in the public sector to improve economic outcomes for First Nations people,” Rebecca Salcole said.
“My research will provide insights into how the Indigenous Procurement Policy can foster equitable, transparent and culturally responsive outcomes.
“It will serve as a benchmark for culturally informed policy innovation, ensuring the APS delivers meaningful, long-term outcomes for First Nations communities and contributes to a more inclusive and equitable Australian society.”
Since 2018, the Sir Roland Wilson Foundation has awarded 40 Pat Turner scholarships to 37 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australian Public Service employees.
The Pat Turner scholarship is a one-to-three year, full-pay scholarship for any level of postgraduate study at ANU or CDU for high-performing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander APS 4 to SES Band 1 APS employees.
