Perspectives on National Reconciliation Week 2020: Belonging to an exceptional group

26 May 2020
An extract of the article by Steve Munns, Pat Turner scholar

Sir Roland Wilson Foundation Pat Turner scholar Steve Munns shares his thoughts on the theme of National Reconciliation Week, ‘In this together’.

Being a Sir Roland Wilson Foundation scholar is a unique and humbling experience.

I feel fortunate to call some of the most gifted public servants my colleagues.

As a scholar, there are opportunities to learn from the board and committee members of the Foundation, who are some of Australia’s greatest minds in economic and public policy. This experience makes you feel you belong to an exceptional group of people.

The honour of being awarded the Pat Turner Scholarship enables myself and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander public servants a chance to bring our unique view, as leaders who walk in two worlds, to this remarkable Foundation.

The 2020 National Reconciliation Week theme, ‘in this together’ captures the spirt of the staff, alumni, board and committee members who provide a truly supportive, respectful and encouraging environment for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars to develop to their fullest potential.

Through mutual respect and cultural understanding the Sir Roland Wilson Foundation is shaping the future of the Australian Public Service for the better.
